Aims of Scouting
Scouting is a worldwide movement that has shaped the development of youth and adults for more than 100 years. Scouts are in every part of our community, and Scouts is the biggest and most successful youth organisation in Australia. More than 20,000 thousand boys, girls, and adults in New South Wales from wide cultural or religious backgrounds or with an intellectual or physical disability enjoy an almost unlimited range of activities.

The aim of Scouting is to encourage the physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual development of young people so they may play a constructive role in society as responsible citizens and as members of their local and international communities. This aim is achieved through a strong and active program that inspires young people to do their best and to always be prepared.

What Northmead Scouts can offer your child and the rest of the family?

The Northmead Scout Group is one of the oldest scout groups in the Region (Parramatta District). Northmead is a very active group in all sections, not only locally but also at the district and regional levels. Young people at Northmead often achieve at the highest levels of scouting whilst experiencing all the challenges and fun that modern scouting offers.

When your son or daughter joins Northmead they will be under the care and guidance of a fully trained and experienced leadership team that offer a wide reaching series of programs to suit youth of all ages. Programs range from the more traditional aspects of scouting like camping, hiking and pioneering to citizenship and games nights.

Your time in scouting can be as long or as brief as you want it to be but be assured that the enjoyment and training experienced will stay with you for the rest of your life. Everyone in the family can join in many of the activities as we regularly involve parents, brothers and sisters.

What am I needed to do?
The success of scouting at Northmead not only relies on the youth members, the enthusiastic leaders and the group committee but also the families. We need the support of everyone to give our group the best scouting experience possible.

All parents are needed to support the groups fundraising efforts and assist in at least 2 events per year as well as attending at least 2  working bees per year at the scout hall.  You may also need to assist Leaders on Scout nights or help with transport to and from camps.

Scouts Australia know requires all parent helpers to have a Working With Children check prior to assisting.  Your Scout Leader will have more details for you on joining.
